Our Step-By-Step Stucco Application Process
Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is crucial for successful, long-lasting stucco application. First, we inspect the area to look for any needed repairs. We fill cracks, replace rotted wood, and remove anything that could interfere with adhesion. The surface is then cleaned to remove dust, oil, and debris. Finally, we install wire lath, corner beads, expansion joints, and other reinforcements to provide a sound base.
Base Coat Application
We trowel on a base layer of stucco approximately 3/8" thick across the entire surface. This scratch coat creates stability and a textured profile for the finish layer to bond to. We use a special mortar mix that contains cement, sand, and fiber for strength. The base coat is moist-cured for 24-48 hours.
Finish Coat Application
The final finish layer goes on next, about 1/8" thick. We use a special technique called "floating" to create an even, consistent texture. This finish coat protects against weather and creates the desired aesthetic look. We match existing textures for repairs. The finish cures for 7-14 days before the final paint or sealer can be applied.
Color and Sealer
Lastly, we apply specialized colored stucco paint in the desired hue. An acrylic sealer is added for an extra layer of protection. Together, these final touches enhance weatherproofing and complete the renewed look.
